Due to the increasing price of gasoline, we have had to increase our rates on most trips. We apologize and hope that the additional availability of off-base pick-up’s will assist and be an additional service that will offset any financial burden.

NOTE: Please remember to sign up for your trip prior to the deadline to ensure yourself a spot. Trips will be cancelled as close as possible to the deadline date if minimum number of participants has not been met.

Cal Expo Independence Day Celebration

Don’t miss this fun Independence Day Celebration at the California State Fairgrounds, Cal Expo. Proudly producing the largest-scale pyrotechnics display in the area’s history this is an event sure to please all! In addition to the spectacular fireworks display, the Celebration also includes live music and dancing in the Grandstand area before the sun begins to set and the fireworks begin to light up the sky. Loads of great food will be available at the fairgrounds for purchase. Fun for all! 634-2054

Can’t afford to rent a boat? Don’t want to pay the price of gas? Then join OAC for an evening of camaraderie and fun at Lake Engelbright as they bring out their water toys! OAC provides all the equipment and ski boat with driver. This is a great opportunity to try out waterskiing, wakeboarding or even knee boarding. Bring your packed dinner and cool beverages! A barbeque is available onshore if you want to do a cook-out! Great fun at a GREAT price! Space is limited. 634-2054

Downieville Classic Bicycle Tour [FLYER]

The Downieville Classic is a mountain bike race where they shut down the small Sierra, river town of Downieville, CA. There are many events and festivities that are enjoyable for everyone. Just a sampling of the events to watch will include the World Championship Pixie Cross Mountain Bike Race, Ron’s Big House of Air River Jump, and the prestigious World Championship Mountain Bike Cross Country Race which draws hundreds of riders each year and is one of the last remaining point-to-point bicycle races in the United States. There will also be food, drinks and live music for everyone. 634-2054

Save your gas, avoid the traffic hassles, huge parking and toll fees while you sit back and let OAC do the driving for you! We will drop you off at Pier 39, where you can shop, tour Alcatraz, take a bay cruise under the Golden Gate Bridge or catch a bus, trolley or taxi to explore Chinatown, Japantown, North Beach, Coit Tower or any of the great landmarks this City by the Bay offers. Don’t forget to check out Union Square for some great shopping and any of the fantastic museums like the Exploratorium and the newly renovated California Academy of Sciences that are located throughout the City. Horseback Ride & Fraser Falls Hike

Let expert wranglers guide you on rides to nearby lakes and through pine forests of Gold Lake. There are miles of unfenced trails to explore. Join the OAC on a two and a half hour adventure through the Sierra Nevada Mountains. After an exciting 2 ½ hour horseback ride we’ll go for a short 1 mile hike to Frazier Falls, a spectacular feather-shaped waterfall, created from a small, tame creek dropping off a huge cliff through a narrow channel. Trip includes transportation, guided trip, and of course a horse. Bring sun block, good hiking shoes, a hat, lunch and plenty of water. 634-2054

Whitewater Rafting

Catch the rush of white water rafting and join OAC for a full day of white water rafting down the So. Fork of the American River, as our team of trained guides accompany you down exhilarating Class 3 rapids. All safety equipment and transportation is provided. All you need to bring on this unforgettable trip is sunscreen, lunch, plenty of water and most importantly, your sense of adventure! Join the exciting world of whitewater kayaking! [FLYER]
Our River Basics program helps beginning kayakers develop the foundation and skills necessary for continuing on your own with the exciting sport of river kayaking. The OAC kayak program will give you the opportunity to receive expert instruction and time in the boat to develop your skills and competence.
The program will consist of an intro to kayaks and the roll, strokes and concepts, intro to rivers and moving current and working up to competently paddling class II rapids on the South Fork American River. The program will be offered as a package deal or as individual classes to ensure participants a full opportunity to gain the necessary skills of whitewater kayaking. Course includes kayaks and all necessary gear. Sign-up deadline June 1.

Fly Fishing Instruction / Seminar

Ever wanted to learn more about the “art” of fly fishing? If you’ve ever tried it, then you know it is not as easy as it looks! Join OAC’s resident fly fishing expert and professional fishing guide as he provides hands-on education on the art of proper fly casting and introduces techniques that will get you headed in the right direction. Instruction will take place at Lower Blackwelder Lake and your rods and reels will be supplied. Apply these techniques on any of OAC’s upcoming fishing expeditions this season to area lakes and rivers! Sign-ups are now being taken for custom fishing trips and opening season trips this month. 634-2054

Tahoe Beginner / Intermediate Rock Climbing
Outdoor Adventure Center

Cost: $135. Age Limit: 10 and up. Sign-up Deadline: 8 July.
The mountains and crags in and around the Lake Tahoe Basin offer a great opportunity for rock climbing. The beautiful settings of the local climbing sites provide participants with a picturesque venue to learn the ins and outs of this exciting sport. All guides are AMGA (American Mountain Guide Association) affiliated with extensive experience in the field. Beginning Rock Climbing: A thorough introduction to rock craft with the emphasis on safety and fun. This course will introduce the first time climber to the concepts of belaying, rope maintenance and safety procedures of top rope climbing. By the end of the course the climber will know how to use a harness, belay device, tie basic knots and understand the importance of communication with your partner. Intermediate Rock Climbing: This class is for the climber who has a general understanding of basic climbing techniques and would like to learn to follow multi-pitch climbs. We will cover gear placement and removal, anchor building and removal, and belaying a lead climber. By the end of the course the climber should be able to follow a leader up a multi pitch climb and critique the safety of gear placements and anchor systems. Trips include everything you will need: all gear, knowledgeable local guides, instruction, and transportation. Pack sunscreen, a lunch, and plenty of water. 634-2054

Northern Sonoma Wine Tour

Northern Sonoma Valley is home to some of Northern California’s finest wine appellations, including Alexander Valley, Dry Creek and the Russian River Valley. This tour will concentrate on the Healdsburg area which is centrally located to over 100 world class wineries and makes this wine region a must see for all wine connoisseurs. We will visit several area wineries and include a tour of one of the area’s most prestigious vineyards and winery. During the afternoon we will make a stop in the quaint downtown square boasting dozens of additional tasting rooms you can visit at your leisure. The downtown square also includes many trendy shops, fine eateries and artesian bakeries. 634-2054

Join the OAC for an evening paddle on Lower Scotts Flat Lake. This small beautiful lake is located just outside Nevada City in a lush conifer forest offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountain side. No motorized boats are allowed on the lake so we will have a quite, scenic evening paddle. OAC will provide kayaks and all necessary gear and instruction. Wear your swimsuit and pack a light dinner, snacks and plenty of water. A change of clothes, sunglasses and a hat are also recommended. This is a great trip for adults and kids alike. 634-2054

Join OAC’s resident angler, Brad Barnes on a High Sierra fishing and hiking expedition. You will be fishing for native rainbow and brown trout on opening day along the North fork of the Yuba River. Tips will be given on both regular & fly fishing techniques. This trip includes roundtrip transportation, all of your equipment (fishing pole, lures, bait). Please wear comfortable shoes for moderate hiking along rock surrounding the river’s edge. Bring along a packed lunch, snacks and plenty of water. We recommend that you bring something to transport your big catch! Space is limited so sign up soon! 634-2054

Taste superb brews from over 25 microbreweries and specialty distributors at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. Try everything from wheat lagers to amber ales to stouts - over 70 different brews!
