FAMILY CHILD CARE GENERAL INFORMATION
Finding good quality care is always a challenge. At Beale Air Force Base, parents have child care options to choose from. You may choose to place your child in the care of the Child Development Center (CDC), which accepts children 6 weeks to 5 years in age. If you have children who have completed kindergarten, you may opt for the Youth Center’s School-age Program (SAP), or the Open Rec Program for children ages 9 to 18. Family Child Care offers parents the option of placing their child in the care of a licensed provider on-base. Day care is held in the provider’s home. If your child is age 2 weeks to 12 years, you might consider Family Child Care as a flexible option for you. |

What is Family Child Care?
Family Child Care (FCC) is quality child care in a home environment. Each licensed child care professional provides care that meets the specific needs of the parents or legal guardians. Types of child care available include full-time care, full-time subsidy care, part-time care, drop-in care, shift care, Extended Duty Care (EDC), PCS Care, and Returning Home Care (RHC). Providers also help provide care for persons who volunteer and who are registered with Airmen & Family Readiness Center. If you work odd hours or work on the weekends, our licensed Family Child Care providers may be your solution. |

What is licensing?
The 9th Mission Support Group Commander approves licensing for on-base residents to provide care in their homes. The licensee must meet all requirements of the AFI-34-276, Family Child Care Program. FCC homes are private businesses, which means that they are self-employed and operate their homes independently in compliance with strict Air Force policies, which include frequent inspections (announced and unannounced) and close monitoring by the Family Child Care staff. Extensive background screenings and orientation training must be completed prior to licensing. Annual and monthly trainings are required to maintain licensing that surpasses state requirements.
There are two types of licenses Standard License:
A license good for 12 months. The provider can accept a maximum of six (6) children, including their own under the age of 8, at any given time. The provider must complete all 15 training modules within 18 months. All providers may have up to two (2) children under the age of 2 at one time.
Accredited License:
A license given to the provider who has been Accredited by the National Family Child Care Association and has met all the Air Force standards. The provider can accept a maximum of six (6) children, including their own under the age of 8, at any given time. All providers may have up to two (2) children under the age of 2 at one time.

Why should a Family Child Care Home be licensed?
Only licensed providers will be authorized to offer child care services in government base quarters. Failure to comply with licensing requirements is a violation of base regulations and could put children at risk. Any individuals caring for other families’ children a total of more than 10 hours per week on a regular or recurring basis must be licensed to provide care in on-base quarters. Failure to comply could result in loss of base housing privileges or possible personal liability suits. If you suspect someone of providing unlicensed childcare, please call 634-5655. A child’s well-being may depend on your call.
If you are interested in placing your child’s name on our FCC referral list, please fax or mail the Child Development Center Form DD 2606 Request For Care Record. Please remember that each provider is an independent business. You will be given a current updated Family Child Care roster. Openings for care are listed and updated weekly.
