Transition Assistance Program (TAP)

TAP consists of a comprehensive four-day workshop. Professionally-trained facilitators from the California Employment Development Department (EDD) present this class. Attendees learn about job search strategies, career planning, current occupational and labor market conditions, resume and cover letter preparation, and interviewing techniques. Participants also receive information from the VA on the most current veterans’ benefit and disability processing.  Spouses are encouraged to attend.

5:00 PM-8:00 pm  Held at the Youth Center Facility  
Bring the entire family to the Junior PDF line to experience a fun and informative day with a mock deployment line, obstacle course and displays!  Interactive booths and static displays will help children understand what parents experience as they prepare for deployments. The event includes an obstacle course with mock weapons certification, and deployment line with multiple base agencies and giveaways. Children can then visit the mock deployment site with military vehicles, tents, displays and demonstrations.  The Jr. PDF line will be held in conjunction with the Youth Center's Kid's Day.

Six hours of free childcare is available one Saturday a month.   You must have a certificate to receive the free childcare.  Certificates may be obtained at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, as well as from First Sergeants, Chapel or Mental Health.  Upon receiving a referral certificate:   Call the CDC at 634-4717 to make your reservation NLT the Wednesday prior to the Saturday to be used.

Labor Day Weekend Sail the San Francisco Bay

Depart the Richmond Marina for a 4-hour journey aboard a 30’ sailboat, sailing the magnificent and scenic San Francisco waterfront, Alcatraz and under the Golden Gate Bridge.  Pack a gourmet picnic lunch and bring along your favorite beverages for the ultimate “picnic” on board your sailing vessel.  Enjoy breathtaking scenery and an experience of a lifetime! This trip includes roundtrip transportation and sailing.  NOTE:  This popular trip fills up FAST and space is limited.

California Brewers Festival at Discovery Park

Let the OAC lead you on an outdoor rock climbing expedition geared to accommodate both beginners to advanced climbers who want to enjoy the thrill of this popular sport. Experience what the Sierra Nevada area has to offer for rock climbing. Traditional, sport, bouldering, multi-pitch; these areas have some of it all! These are very common rock climbing spots and offers climbing accommodations for every skill level. OAC will provide all climbing gear needed for your adventure. We recommend you bring a hearty sack lunch, plenty of water for a hot summer day and comfortable, flexible shoes. A more detailed list of items can be picked up at OAC. We will drop you off at Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf, where you can shop, tour Alcatraz, take a bay cruise under the Golden Gate Bridge or catch a bus, trolley or taxi to explore Chinatown, Japantown, Union Square, North Beach—the Little Italy of the City, or the Coit Tower; want something a bit quirkier? Check out Haight Ashbury district where the sixties have never died! San Francisco is full of great landmarks and things to do! Don’t forget to check out any of the fantastic museums, especially the newly renovated California Academy of Sciences located in the heart of Golden Gate Park. If you would like to tour Alcatraz, we highly recommend you contact www.alcatrazcruises.com and pre-purchase tickets well in advance for anytime after 12:00 pm. This tour will depart San Francisco around 8:00 pm.

Catch the rush of white water rafting and join OAC for a full day of white water rafting down the So. Fork of the American River, as our team of trained guides accompany you down exhilarating Class 3 rapids. All safety equipment and transportation is provided. All you need to bring on this unforgettable trip is sunscreen, lunch, plenty of water and most importantly, your sense of adventure! A more detailed list of recommended supplies for this trip is available at OAC. OAC has wetsuits, splash jackets and booties available for a nominal fee for those unaccustomed to the chilly water temps.

Full Moon Kayak Paddle

Relax and unwind after a hard day’s work as we travel to Lake Valley Reservoir and paddle under the mysterious light of a full moon. We will fire up the BBQ for a light lakeside dinner and for a special treat we’ll cook up a yummy dessert in a Dutch oven!! OAC will provide the kayaks, paddles and lifejackets along with your dinner and dessert. Please bring your favorite beverages and extra water for your evening adventure.  This trip will fill FAST, so sign up quick! Both tandem and single kayaks will be available on this trip.

This fabulously fun and tasty event, featuring some of the Northern Sierra Foothill’s finest restaurants and wineries, takes place on Saturday afternoon of the Draft Horse Classic at the beautiful Nevada County Fairgrounds. Find your favorite wine and with glass in hand, nibble your way through more restaurants than you could possibly visit in a long weekend. With your first taste and your first sip, you’ll soon recognize why A Taste of the Gold has become such a popular event.

Moaning Caverns Rappelling

Mandatory Sign-up Deadline: September 15 (Strictly enforced due to special reservations)
This trip is not for the faint of heart and fills up FAST!!  Cave explorers begin this exciting expedition with the 165-foot rope rappel, followed by one to two hours of exploration through deep chambers and passages. Most areas are undeveloped, so there are no lights, stairs, or walkways. Instead, visitors daringly explore by climbing and belly crawling with lighted helmets to show the way. This trip is conducted by experienced, highly trained guides. No experience is necessary. Gloves, hard-hat with light, coveralls from size 36 adult, and rappelling gear are provided.  Transportation is included.  This trip is a savings of over $40! Add a zip line ride at the caverns for an extra $31. On the way home we’ll make a stop in the historic town of Murphy’s where you can visit any of the numerous wineries and grab a bite to eat in one of the great restaurants.--OAC can take payments on this trip; must be paid in full by deadline.
